Do you feel joyful? Are you “in-Joy-ing” your life? You can manifest joy on a daily basis if you decide to do it. But let’s take a few moments to talk about what joy is.

Let’s get serious about being joyful

Joy is the ecstatic feeling of life coursing through your being unhindered. It is a brother to inspiration, the filling of the body with spirit, the flow of divine energy through nature. People feel this inflow as inspiration, and its presence as joy. Think about the times when you’ve felt the most joy and I know a smile will emerge from the depths of your being.

Joy is a feeling of lightness, exultation and expansion. It involves a reaching outward for life in a thankful embrace. Joy is felt and expressed through smiles, laughs, tingles, desire, and gratitude. It is complete acceptance of what is. Joy is an energized ease with your life. It cannot be attained but is realized when the world falls away and we are immersed in the moment. Sometimes this arises naturally and at others, the hard work of personal discovery and growth has opened the way for it to come in.

Joy is fleeting for many of us. Often, it comes and goes before we realize it was there. For many people, joy is a sort of brief but intense happiness that hits us when we’re having fun or feeling particularly connected to someone or something. We feel joy when embraced by a loved one, opening a gift, or riding a roller coaster. Joy can become a stronger and more lasting presence in our daily lives with a conscious and committed effort. To be continuously joyous, we need to know that things are right even when they are wrong. Joy thrives when faith in ourselves, and especially in something greater than ourselves, is strong. We can have pain and difficulty in our lives and still have an underlying sense of joy in knowing that our life is exactly where and how it should be.

When we focus on living in the present moment and learn to free ourselves from internal and external expectations, judgments and future plans, we open the door to fun, frolic, humor and joy. When the freshness of our perspective on life enables every moment to become a surprise, everyday is like a holiday (holy-day). Nothing is old or expected, and everything is new.

Having fun and feeling joy is dependent on adopting a perspective that seeks it. So much of what we feel, arises based on our subjective interpretations of life. We are the Directors of our own personal movies. Though we may not have control over the stage or the scene, we alone govern our personal perspectives and responses to life’s circumstances. The more seriously we take ourselves and the world around us, the less easy it is to see the humor in the most ordinary. I am not saying that we should disregard the profound sacredness and meaning of life or the importance of personal experience. Instead, I am emphasizing that we should celebrate it! To celebrate is to be enjoying (in-JOY-ing) your life. The most intensely alive person embraces all things so openly that life’s boundless energy flows fluidly through everything he or she does. Be joyful! It is within your power, within your grasp. You can do it! Love yourself, have faith, let go and BE IN JOY!
